Salah Mohamed Mahmoud

Prof. Salah Mohamed Mahmoud currently works as the professor of Geodynamics at National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), Helwan, Cairo, Egypt.

He had obtained his Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics (Applied geophysics), Institute of Physics of the Earth, Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, Russia and specialized in Geodynamics and crust deformation by means of GPS (Global Positioning System) devoted to geophysical studies and seismic hazard mitigation.

He worked as president of NRIAG during 2006.He has published single and shared about 65 papers in local and international Journals in the field of Geophysics, Geodetic works, GPS and Seismicity. He has represented Egypt of about 45 International Conferences, for example, UN, USA, IUGG, AU, and IAG from 1989 till 2018.

Research Interest

Monitoring crustal deformation in and around active faults especially surrounding seismically active areas using seismic and geodetic observations (terrestrial and space technique GPS).
Participating in different scientific programs for the purpose of geodynamics and monitoring crustal deformation studies using GPS with different International Institutions (e.g. EASTMED Project with MIT, USA; TYRGEONET Project with Institute Nationale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia INGV, Rome, Italy. Earthquake hazards assessments projects in cooperation with UNESCO and Japan. Cooperation with Inst. of Physical Geodesy, Darmstadt Uni. Germany, cooperation with Inst. of Geodesy, Prague, Check Republic and  Visiting Prof. to Inst. of Industrial science, Tokyo, Japan etc.
